Posterior detachment of the vitreous
It is the detachment of the vitreous from the retina in the posterior part of the eye fundus. The vitreous is a substance like gelatin that fills up the posterior part of the eye bulb. It is a common disease where the patients complain of feeling ‘flying flies’ (floaters), spiderwebs, etc.
The acute posterior detachment of vitreous can be the cause of rupture creation in the retina. It can cause the feeling of beams like lightnings (illumination).
In the detachment of the vitreous, detailed examination of the eye fundus must be done, because the creation of retina ruptures and following detachment of the retina are possible, having as a consequence even blindness.
Retinal vein blockage
They are the most common retina vascular diseases after Diabetic Retinopathy. The blockage of the central retinal vein or of a branch of it occurs in 90% of cases for people over 50 years old.
Predisposition factors are:
Arterial hypertension, arteriosclerosis, diabetes, smoking, hyperopia, pathological plasma factors and increased intraocular pressure. It could be caused by exterior compression, primary disease (vasculitis) or by thrombosis.
It is distinguished in:
• Ischemic (heavy/acute) type with risk of neovascular iris redness and neovascular glaucoma
• Non-ischemic type
Symptoms
• Sadden, painless, significant vision loss of the suffering eye
• Sadden, painless, visual field part loss
• Decrease of visual acuity when it is expanded in the macula
Compilations
Macular edema, ischemia of a part of the retina, neoaggiosis, neovascular glaucoma, development of microaneurysm, retina detachment.
Therapeutic treatment
• Laser photoagulation for minoring the possibility of neovascular glaucoma
• Intravitreal injection for reduction of the macular edema and of the possibility of neoaggiosis.
• Treatment of the reasons that caused it, always in cooperation with your physician.
